چکیده

The lethal chlorophyll mutant is described in this work. It is characterized by irregular, transversal, yellow stripes of equal width on the leaf blade of seedlings. Those seedlings usually produced 2 leaves (though at times 3 or 4), however they did not propagate and some of them died out by the end of November. The way of inheritance of this trait was defined on the basis of segregation of plants with a normal green colour of leaves (491) and plants with yellow, transversal stripes on leaves (167) in the segregating population. The obtained segregation is close to the theoretical ratio 3:1 which shows that the feature is determined by a recessive gene denoted by the symbol tys (transversal, yellow stripes). The expression of gene tys was observed on the level of chloroplast ultrastructure in the shape of a reduction of the number of thylakoids and grana as well as lesser the net photosynthesis of intensity. Moreover, the tys gene caused a significant decrease of chlorophyll a and b content as well as a + b in leaves of the mutant in comparison with control. The chlorophyll mutant characterized above was first described in this work.

White yellow virescent pattern in winter rye: inheritance, plant growth, and ultrastructure of plastids.

Inbred lines from different varieties of cultivated plants characterized by a white yellow irregular pattern on the leaves obtained after selection in the inbred generation (S3) of winter rye (Secale cereale L.) were the object of the present studies. The feature of a white yellow irregular pattern in all lines was monomeric and recessive. This trait in L158b, wch, and zp was determined by the ...

Primary leaves of rye (Secale cereale L. cv. Hydroxamic acids in Secale cereale L. and the relationship with their antifeedant and allelopathic properties.

Contents of the hydroxamic acids 2,4-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoxazin-3-one (DIBOA), and 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazin-3-one (DIMBOA) in leaves and roots of 14 cultivars of rye, Secale cereale L., were determined. Dynamics of accumulation in three cultivars were evaluated. DIBOA was the main cyclic hydroxamic acid in leaves but the contents differed significantly between the cultivars. Both DI...

Ethylene induces antifreeze activity in winter rye leaves.

Antifreeze activity is induced by cold temperatures in winter rye (Secale cereale) leaves. The activity arises from six antifreeze proteins that accumulate in the apoplast of winter rye leaves during cold acclimation. The individual antifreeze proteins are similar to pathogenesis-related proteins, including glucanases, chitinases, and thaumatin-like proteins. The objective of this study was to ...
